NSF was established in memory of Late Mrs. Nora Solomon. Born on July 05, 1917 (1917 – 2001) in Aligarh, India into the family of George and Ruby Brave, she received her education at a simple boarding school in the city of Agra. Though she did not pursue a professional career and became a homemaker at the tender age of seventeen, she contributed most of her free time working towards social welfare and community development.
She served on various committees of her church and was responsible for several drives that aimed at creating awareness on the social evils that plagued humanity, such as Domestic Violence, ill-treatment of women at home and in society and infringement of the rights of widows. Education of the under privileged children, especially the girl child, was another cause close to her heart.
She encouraged one and all including her own children to help educate children from unprivileged background. To give shape to her vision of a society without social and economic disparity, the Solomon family founded the Nora Solomon Foundation(NSF), which aims to become a catalyst in its own right of socio-economic change in India.
Our focus is to promote quality education and vocational training to enhance employability, support to Child and Welfare Centers, inclusive education for special children, healthcare for the old and disabled, among other important issues.
NSF is in the process of establishing its own facilities for training Special Educators and Instructors for disabled children. We are at the nascent stage of setting up Vocational Skill Schools and a Nursing College in Mewat, Haryana in order to train the underprivileged youth to gain financial independence and provide economic resuscitation to their families.
An OPD Centre for providing quality health care to the elderly and the underprivileged is also being opened in the same area. We hope to establish similar centers in other parts of the Country.
Presently, NSF continues its work through contributions to various charities, sponsoring education and forming partnerships with other organisations having similar objectives by providing them financial and/or administrative support.
Nora Solomon Foundation is also the official Partner for CSR activities of Chintels India Ltd a young , dynamic real estate company in Gurgaon and one of the top ten land owners in Delhi and Gurgaon.
Our vision entails developing in-house capabilities and Infrastructure to make NSF financially self sustaining in order to run its various programmes independently and by forging long term and sustainable partnerships with likeminded individuals and organisations who can help us successfully achieve our undertaking.
NSF absolutely believes in the ethos famously enunciated by Nelson Mandela that, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. We must arm the world with education and literacy to combat the intellectually ailing world, therefore, we have partnered with various organizations that are committed to sowing the seeds of knowledge in budding minds.
